“Every charter school automatically has a negative impact on school district finances.”
— Sierra Jenkins, Director of Communications at the California Charter Schools Association, Pacific Sun Newspaper, 12/27/12

 The MAP teachers' petition to "partially convert Manor School (p.9)" into a charter was denied last year, but they have submitted another petition, which was also unanimously denied by our democratically elected Ross Valley School Board Trustees. This year, they plan to appeal the denial to the Marin County Office of Education and the State Department of Education.

Please check here to read the district's 2015 denial report.

If approved, this charter will:

  1. Divert sorely needed funds from the Ross Valley School District (RVSD) budget;
  2. Enshrine proven MAP discrimination against English Language Learners, special needs students and low-income families;
  3. Further divide our entire Ross Valley community.

What We Believe

  • We do not need an expensive charter school, run by the County, State, or private business, to provide quality education to RVSD kids. Our kids are already getting that!
  • Whether or not your child attends Manor, the ripple effects of displaced students and teachers relocated to other schools, and smaller budgets would be felt throughout the district.
  • During this time when our school district faces severe budget constraints, we cannot afford a “choice” like this. As a community and as parents and teachers that care about ALL of our children, this is the time to invest more in the great schools and programs we currently have!
  • We believe that all children benefit from being in diverse groups of students, and that, by modeling the resolution of conflict, our children learn many powerful lessons about peacefully and equitably navigating an increasingly polarized world.

What's Next?

  • Though their petition was unanimously denied by the RVSD Trustees again, the petitioners will make their case before the Marin County Office of Education on Tuesday, September 8.
  • Email your opposition to the MCOE Trustees by emailing them c/o Superintendent Mary Jane Burke: marincoe@marinschools.org
  • Attend the Public Hearing at MCOE: Tuesday September 8, 2015 Time: 4:00 PM Location: Marin County Office of Education Community Room 1111 Las Gallinas Avenue San Rafael, CA 94903 Phone: 415-472-4110
