A Brief History
ross valley charter was approved by the state board of education On January 14, 2016
our district (RVSD) worked with RVC, giving RVC access to RVSD legal counsel as well as two separate opportunities to bid on the Red Hill site
RVC's lease offers contained numerous liabilities to RVSD (the landlord - and taxpayers) who would be ultimately responsible for bringing the site up to code + providing a traffic solution for access to Red Hill (imagine the traffic!)
Despite numerous public promises that if the district worked with them to lease Red Hill, they would not submit a Prop 39 request, RVC did exactly the opposite
rvc has told the community for months that they want to leave Manor and let it thrive, yet here they are, asking for manor, and/or Brookside in their prop 39! Click here to read the rvc's (now broken) promises.
IF RVC OPENS ITS DOOR AT ANY LOCATION, THIS CHARTER WILL:
- Divert sorely needed funds from the Ross Valley School District (RVSD) budget, impacting things like teacher employment, class size, teacher aids, libraries, lunchtime supervision and a re-drawing of school boundaries; Click here to read the letter from Mary Jane Burke to RVSD about the financial impact RVC will have on RVSD. Click here to review the RVSD board meeting in May and changes that have already been made to class sizes to prepare for the charter.
- Provide RVC, a group of self-appointed and self-selected individuals, with a history of discrimination against english language learners, special needs students and low-income families increased autonomy and very little oversight;
- Further divide our entire Ross Valley community;
- Cost an unknown amount annually in legal fees - between July 2014 and March 2015, RVSD spent $60,000 on legal fees related to MAP/RVC alone. That could pay for one full-time teacher! If you think we are crying wolf check out this article about Bullis Charter in Los Altos and note what it has cost that District and community. This happened after their County Office of Ed approved the charter, opening the door to 15+ YEARS of litigation over - you guessed it! - LOCATION!
